VA - Utreg Punx 1978-1982

When the Ramones played in Utrecht on 11 May 1977, it was a first introduction to Punk for the youth of Domstad. Erik de Jong (later Spinvis) was there. He was in one of the first Utrecht Punk bands, Duds, in 1977. More young people started a band, fanzines came out and a local record label "Rock Against Records" was founded. That released the 7-inch EP "Utreg Punx" in 1980. By now, that title had become the watchword for the entire local Punk scene. Fourteen bands from this are now collected on the LP "Utreg Punx 1978-1982". The best-known - Lullabies, Rakketax and The Nixe - are represented with more than one song. We also meet groups with members who would later become household names. Like Hi-Jinx with Gert van Veen (Quazar) and René van Barneveld (Urban Dance Squad) or Scrambled Eric with Richard Janssen (Fatal Flowers). The 20 tracks are short and sound raw, simple and fast. Pure Punk in all its simplicity. No trace of Post-Punk or Ultra. Only on Rakketax do Ska influences come through. The carefully documented record comes with a fanzine plus a single, on which Spinvis reinterpreted four songs from that era. Where, for instance, he used the original vocals from The Nixe and turned the Noxious track into a piano ballad. "Utreg Punx" is an (almost) complete period document that Utrecht can be proud of.
