S4G

Forming in 2003, the Montreal band, S4G, made their debut with their hardcore cover of Atmosphere’s "Fuck You Lucy," featured on Mr. Dibbs' "Turntable Hardcore 2: Pain Merchant." This outfit, notorious in the scene for being mysterious and obsessively DIY, managed to record and produce their entire EP in their living room by transforming it into a fully-equipped recording studio. By 2006, their reputation in the punk/hardcore underground had grown to such a degree that they were sought out by Montreal’s Under Pressure Records to contribute to the "Black Eyes & Broken Bones" Hardcore Volume 1. Though not a hardcore group, they were chosen both for their authoritative presence within the Montreal hardcore scene and for their lyrical criticism of the artificiality that has arisen in some parts of the underground. S4G's "So Hardcore," was selected as the final track on the album. With a wide range of influences, including hardcore, old school punk, and rock n' roll, S4G has stuck to their guns despite their immersion in a city now dominated by metalcore, straightedge, and fashioncore outfits. In this way, their style has been compared most often to their heroes in the working-class Boston punk scene. With zero pretentiousness, S4G is a bona fide group of drunken, genuine, old-school rockers who promote youthful aggression, a DIY ethic, and finding any excuse to drink a beer and smoke a cigarette.
