The Jet Black Berries

The Jet Black Berries were important early innovators at the forefront of the emerging Cow-Punk Americana movement of the early 80's. One critic described their music "as a hybrid form of American-Country-Folk-Voodoo-Swamp-Metal." Whew!! After 30 plus years their long out of print classic 1986 album Desperate Fires has been remastered and re-issued and is finally available again. The Boston Globe may have summed this album up best when they said, "These upstate New York natives chew up American pop-culture trash and spit it outwith power chords and tobacco juice. Just what plot they are orchestrating is unclear, but it really doesn't matter - The Jet Black Berries swing." In 1987 Desperate Fires was one of 4 records nominated for the New York New Music Awards for "best Album on an Independent label".
