Joyryde
Joyryde was alternative Punk/Metal band from London, England active from 1991 to 1998. The band folded a long time ago but the songs refused to lay down and die! Here’s a second chance to discover one of the most underrated bands in rock history….. The ill-fated Joyryde played gritty, high velocity Punk/Metal in the early 90’s in London, at a time when everyone else was listening to soft-focus Indie music or DJs. Formed in 91 by core members Kathy Freeman and Claudia Preda, Joyryde was snapped up by Carlton Sandercock's Kill City label in ’93 and released four-track CD “Not a Hope in Hell” This was quickly followed by a second four-track CD “Rumorosa”. But following the demise of Kill City the band never achieved the recognition they deserved. Maybe the music business wasn’t yet ready for those killer three minute anthems from a band fronted by two strong women and backed by the most able “disabled” drummer in the world Mat Fraser (now a successful actor, TV personality and cabaret performer.) The band continued to gig and record sporadically until 1998 when Freeman reluctantly called it a day. Despite - or possibly because of - an endless background of damp, overpriced rehearsal rooms, disrespect from industry and promoters, poorly paid shows in dismal London taverns, and continual line-up changes, the songs are bursting with a passion, anger and energy which transcends the limitations of the London 90’s scene; and have arguably stood the test of time better than those of their shoe-gazing contemporaries.
